What a wonderful read!I was quite surprised by how much I actually enjoyed reading this book. The prevalence of obesity in today’s society is unheard of and there are no signs pointing toward a decline in the number of fatalities that can be directly linked to being overweight. It is vital that we don’t just brush this off like it was nothing, we really need to educate ourselves, and more importantly – educate our young.
Having said that, I was thoroughly impressed by how well the author wove this overall message into the storyline, while at the same time making it funny and very easily digestible. It will increase your child’s awareness of the dangers associated with overeating, but at the same time it will also show the incredible rewards of eating sensible and how to cultivate the self-discipline that is necessary in order to make decisions that will ultimately lead to a more healthy lifestyle.
I would definitely feel comfortable in recommending this book to any parent out there who wishes to give their children the gift of a pleasant and fun read while cultivating good habits at the same time.

This book is fun to read! It has a good message as well. I have cats and I know how clever they can be about food. They will always try their luck to get something better and sometimes it's easier to give in. The book is written by a person that knows cats very well and I can recommend it to all cat lovers regardless of age. If you are looking for a good cat story and not just cute pictures, get this book. It put a big smile on my face!
Gatsby the Great is a fantastic children's book about a cat who transforms himself from a fat, lazy cat to "Gatsby the Great" a fit and happy cat. It's a fun story for the whole family and will be sure to provide kids with a valuable lesson of healthy eating.
Gatsby the Great is a cute story showing a great example of how too much of anything, food in this case, is not good for you. Thanks to the help of cute little Holly and a change in his habits, Gatsby learned a wonderful lesson and one particularly helpful to so many kids today who could stand to lose a little excess weight too. Very cute story!
With love, anything is possible. . . that and a good diet and some exercise. I love cat stories so I was delighted when I happened across Gatsby the Great. First, the name Gatsby is a awesome name for a cat. And the other characters in the book are really well defined as well. The story follows the adventures and misadventures of Gatsby the cat who makes mistakes just like everybody and recovers and takes a different path. It is a great story for children, and has a message for adults as well. A fast read, it is packed with characters that jump off the page and bring the world to life. Well-recommended for anybody who loves cats. Adorable.
Gatsby the Great by Evangeline Auld is a very sweet and clever tale that delivers some great messages. Extreme in anything just isn't ideal. Cute Gatsby let his laziness and cleverness get the best of him for awhile. Eventually manifesting into some excess baggage, literally! With the belief and support of another cat friend he was able to overcome the life obstacle self-created and was better for it.
Auld writes a smooth and engaging story with pictures that fit perfectly. If you want a smile while learning a few important life lessons, this is the book for you. My thoughts are you should give this book a read and let Auld know your what you think! Nice job!
I am an Evangeline Auld fan and this is just an example of why I love her books. Gatsby The Great is the story of a cat who loved to over-indulge and as a result he became Gatsby the Fat. After a rather embarrassing encounter with a cat-flap Gatsby came to the realization that he would have to lose weight however he was not a fan of dieting and exercise. After meeting Holly - the cute little cat next door - Gatsby made the decision to lose his excess weight and with the help of Holly and his owner Mrs. Meridew Gatsby was able to make the changes in his lifestyle that lead to him becoming Gatsby the Great. The lessons are intricately woven within the story and yet they stand out so well. A wonderful book for young children and I recommend it to every parent whose children are faced with lifestyle changes. With the help of our family and friends we can accomplish anything.
